The Music Department is a friendly, social, loving, and fun-loving group of musicians. New people are always welcome! We have fun in our rehearsals and take joy in our role as musicians. We know that we are twice blessed: the gift of talent is ours to enjoy, but we are also charged to use this gift to the glory of God. As J. S. Bach said in his motto: Soli Deo Gloria
The Chancel Choir sings in worship services most Sundays. This is a non-auditioned group who love music and camaraderie with their fellow singers. They rehearse on Tuesdays at 4:00. There are occasional extra rehearsals for special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. A delicious dinner at a bargain price is served in the Fellowship Hall following rehearsal, at 5:45. The choir takes a July vacation, and returns in August refreshed, to begin another year.
The Gathering Place
THE GATHERING PLACE held their first meeting at John Knox Presbyterian Church on March 15, 1973 and has been going strong for forty-seven years!
This unique program, designed primarily for senior citizens in our church and surrounding community, was founded by Norma Jean Cleveland, a former member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. THE GATHERING PLACE came into being with the first meeting attended by 35 guests who played table games and shared lunch.
Today THE GATHERING PLACE meets monthly on the 4th Thursday (with the exception of November and December which will be on the 3rd Thursdays) for fellowship, entertainment and lunch, hosted by the Women of John Knox. Everyone is welcome to attend. The donation for lunch is still only $1!
The Women of John Knox offer a variety of activities that we invite you to participate in. We meet once a month from September to May for study of the Bible or other appropriate topics. The Day Circle meets in the church parlor at 9:30 a.m. on the 2nd Thursday each month. Our study for 2021-22 is "What My Grandmothers Taught Me: Learning from the Women in Matthew's Geanealogy of Jesus," by Merryl Blair. The Women of John Knox also sponsor our adult Christmas Dinner each year. This year's dinner is on Saturday, December 4 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and fellowship followed by dinner, dessert and entertainment. Presbyterian Women participate in a variety of outreach projects as well.
