Daily Prayer for Monday, October 26, 2020

10/26/2020

“For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who Thee by faith before the world confessed…”
                                        —-William Walsham How, 1864

Preparation for worship
Sit in a relaxed position. Take a slow, deep breath (or 2 or 3 or as many as needed) until you feel your body, mind, and soul begin to relax and rest in the Spirit.  Take time to reflect as you move through this time of worship…

Opening Sentences                                                      Deuteronomy 6:4-5
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
You shall love the Lord your God.

Prayer                                                  Book of Common Worship, PCUSA, 2018
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect
in one communion and fellowship
in the mystical body of your Son, Christ our Lord.
Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints
in all virtuous and godly living
that we may come to those ineffable joys
that you have prepared for those who truly love you;
through Jesus Christ our Savior,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, in glory everlasting.  Amen.

Hymn of the Day
Be Thou My Vision, with choir, organ, and bagpipes, arranged by Dennis Janzer.  Listen and pray.

Reading of the Day                                                  1 Kings 1:28-31, 38-40
28 King David answered, “Summon Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king’s presence, and stood before the king. 29 The king swore, saying, “As the Lord lives, who has saved my life from every adversity, 30 as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Your son Solomon shall succeed me as king, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ so will I do this day.” 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and did obeisance to the king, and said, “May my lord King David live forever!”
38 So the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and led him to Gihon. 39 There the priest Zadok took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!” 40 And all the people went up following him, playing on pipes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth quaked at their noise.

Prayers for self and others
Please pray today for those who are being affected by COVID-19 and by its side effects in our world. Pray for the thousands who are still being diagnosed positive in the U.S. each day.  As we hear of more friends who are directly affected, or who are working in high risk places, we will list them here. Pray today— again— for hospital workers in areas with overwhelming numbers of people infected with COVID-19. Use this time to lift your joys, concerns, and hopes to God.

Benediction
Whatever you do, in word or deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God through him.
Amen.
